I took an afternoon out from the studio last week and popped to London to visit the Christian Dior exhibition currently showing at the Victoria & Albert museum. It was beyond spectacular. Some of the dresses on show I have only ever drooled over in fashion books, to actually see them in the flesh was magical. This is the V&A's most popular exhibition of all time and I can see why. But hurry as it closes it's doors on September 1st (I might even go again! ). "There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much. I love English traditions, English politeness, English architecture. I even love English cooking." Christian Dior
Silk taffeta evening dress, Cristóbal Balenciaga, 1955. I took a day out from the studio last week and went to the Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion exhibition currently showing at the V&A. There are over 100 pieces to see from the master of couture himself and his contemporaries. Well worth a visit to see first hand some of his iconic pieces such as the ‘envelope’ dress. On at the V&A until 18th February 2018 Alberta Tiburzi in 'envelope' dress by Cristóbal Balenciaga.
I popped along to Tate Modern to check out the Marlene Dumas: The Image as Burden exhibition. Wow, what an incredibly thought-provoking exhibition from one of the most prominent painters working today.
On at Tate Modern until the 10th May. Hurry up and get yourself down to the V&A this weekend as their 'The Wedding Dress' exhibition ends on Sunday 15th March. Don't despair if you can't make it, as I went a few weeks ago and here are some of my favourite frocks!
I popped to the literary festival in Cheltenham this week to catch a talk by Jo Ellison (former Vogue fashion editor) on her new book titled 'The Gown' which delves into the Vogue archives and celebrates everything that's great about long frocks!
I took an afternoon out from the studio this week to pop into the Valentino exhibition currently showing at Somerset House. SO many amazing dresses from the last 60 years - all showing incredible attention to detail. The day was hugely inspiring (my catalogue has been doodled on throughout!) and well worth a visit.
